introduction

We usually read an informational book on a topic looking for answers. I hope when you read this book that it will provoke some questions that inspire you to do your own research. I don’t have all the answers. Some will say, I am not a scientist or a medical professional. That is correct. I am always open to change my understanding, always, but will never deny what I have seen with my own eyes and felt with my own body.

I am writing this book to my younger self who was frantically searching everywhere for the answers. I have compiled two decades of research in these pages. Twenty years ago I didn’t think I would be alive today. The doctors came to the conclusion the pain was in my head. I came to the conclusion that because of the level of pain I was experiencing, it had to be a life-threatening disease and when the doctors found the source, it would likely be too late. So, in experiencing the surprising gift of growing older and looking back at what happened in my life, I have questions. I was in survival mode for quite some time and was not able to look at my situation from a bird’s eye view, or with a clear head. Staying focused on what was causing my pain consumed me. In a way, it seemed the doctors were partially right. The pain was always in my head. Even when I was not in pain I was terrified of when it would return and if I would be close to an emergency room when it did.

I have had to learn to forgive myself for not asking more questions before taking years of antibiotics and for not seeking a more holistic doctor and some kind of natural alternative sooner. I could drown in the ‘what if’s’. One of the tensions between the medical community and alternative health practitioners is the concern that ordinary people without formal training will start to practice medicine without a license. Through the many alternative health practitioners I have worked with, they all seem to have the same request. They want those in medicine to do their job and start helping people who later on come to these alternative practitioners and say, “Doctors aren’t helping me.”

I don’t know if you believe in miracles, but I do. If you are curious why I believe that miracles happen, read my dad’s story. I think if I had not believed in them, things would have gone differently. I also believe the most dangerous thing to lose or to strip from someone when you are dealing with any kind of illness is hope. So if you are experiencing chronic illness or pain, I believe I can pass on the hope that I have been given.

We live in a world that is over-burdened with toxins, from  household chemicals and perfumes to car and airplane exhaust, heavy metals, and dirty drinking water. Fortunately, and amazingly, nature is full of solutions. Curious inquiry into nature’s offerings is one of our greatest opportunities when dealing with any health challenge. Einstein once said about his genius, “I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.” If this is true, we all have the opportunity to find genius.
