what is in conventional liquid eyeliners?
Synthetic plastics, such as acrylic copolymer, PVP (polyvinyl pyrrolidone polymer) and polyvinyl acetate, are commonly found in conventional liquid eyeliners. They are used mainly as the binding agent/film former in liquid eyeliner to glue pigments and fillers together so the eyeliner stays on your lashes.
These synthetic plastics are derived from petrochemicals; contain residual monomers (the starting materials for producing plastics, namely acrylic monomers, vinyl pyrrolidone monomer and vinyl acetate monomer) that are not only toxic, but also reactive.
Synthetic dyes, glycol, alcohol and chemical preservatives are also used in conventional liquid eyeliner formulations.

One of my projects this year when orders slowed down was to work on a 100% natural gel liner formula. I wanted it to be squeaky clean as far as the ingredients + plant based. Most importantly it needed to be functional – very black, hydrating, volumizing, lengthening, and staying put all day (no breaking down of the formula). I have never been able to tick off all the boxes though. I have found that my raspberry elixir removes the mascara gently but easily at bedtime.
